RADCLIFFE Athletics Club had five runners at the Stoodley Pike fell race with one in the top 10.
Ben Riddell finished 10th out of 216 runners in the 3.7 mile event at Todmorden in 20 minutes and 53 seconds. Next home from the club was Tony Holt (V45) in 25.30., John Young (V60) ran 28.24, Anne Marie Rampley (V40) 28.51 and Rachel Stoney 29.50.
Riddell also recorded a second place in the Northern Vets AC’s 10k at Radcliffe, organised by vet 60 club member Jim Rhodes in memory of his late wife Joan.
The Joan Rhodes Memorial Cup went to Horwich’s Rob Jackson.
The event raised £180 for St Ann’s Hospice.
Radcliffe runners taking part in the 10k race included Kathryn Davies (V45), Bill Armstrong (V55) and Eileen Royle, who was first vet 60.
In the 5k race, the Fred Norris Cup winner was vet 70 Bill Atkinson of Northern Vets with Radcliffe’s George Critchley (V50) second and Jim Sutcliffe fourth.
On Sunday, Sheila and Peter McNulty went for the longer distance when they took on the 17.5 mile Holme Moss Fell Race at Holmfirth. Peter was third vet 50 in 3.38, while Sheila was first vet 60 in 4.24.
The club held another successfully organised 5.5 mile Bull Hill fell race at Hawkshaw with 76 runners taking part. The winner was Salford Harrier John Brown, from Prestwich, in 36.42.
Marie Caldwell set four British track records at the Costello Athletics Stadium in Hull at the weekend. The veteran athlete set best times for women aged over 70 at 50k, 50 miles, 100k and 82 miles in the 24-hour race.
