BOXING: Roberts ready for Razak test

4:48pm Wednesday 16th July 2008

WHITEFIELD boxer Rhys Roberts reckons he is primed to extend his 100 per cent professional record to five victories on Saturday.

The 19-year-old stablemate of Scott Quigg is up against veteran fighter Sid Razak at Olympia in Liverpool, and he is determined to continue his rapid progress.

“It’s only two weeks since my last fight but I like to box regularly because I improve more quickly,” said the part-time barber. “I watched Sid’s fight against Scott (Quigg) a few months ago and I am confident I can handle him. I know what to expect.

“You have to be 100 per cent confident in your ability at this level. Sid is a little taller than me, so I have been working on my counter punches and how to draw him in.

“I have been sharpening up on my fitness too and I want to put on a good show.”

Like Quigg, Roberts will head to New York next month with other fighters from Collyhurst and Moston Lads Club to train in some of the Big Apple’s top gyms.
