BURY FC’s Girls and Ladies are emerging from a reputation-enhancing summer after their under-11s and U12s team performed admirably in the highly-rated Skelmersdale Tournament.

The U11s were unfortunate not to make it to the semi-finals, but the U12s went all the way to the final, beating Durham League Champions Chester-Le-Street on the way.

They then faced Liverpool County FA League Champions Thingwall Girls, losing by the only goal of the game.

Bury then took two U12s teams to the Beechfield Tournament in Manchester and they both reached the quarter-finals. With both teams then in separate semi-finals there was the intriguing prospect of a Bury v Bury showdown.

It was not to be, however, as one team won and the other team lost.

Bury played their hearts out and were unlucky to lose the final 3-2 on penalties after a scoreless stalemate.

The U11s then successfully defended their title as champions at the Euxton Tournament, beating Wigan Athletic in the semi-final before beating Merseysiders, Dynamo Rangers, in the final on penalties.

And their achievement was emulated by their U12 counterparts, who beat host club Euxton in the semi-finals and Penwortham Girls in the final with the only goal of the game.

Meanwhile, Bury have played a friendly match against the touring Shawnee Soccer Club from Kansas City, USA.

The girls, aged 15, 16 and 17, played a Bury side of similar ages at Phillips Sports Centre, Whitefield, in front of a large crowd, with the hosts running out 7-2 winners. Lucy Golding and Jayde Clegg both notched hat-tricks and Gemma Price got the other.

Bury have launched a recruitment drive for players aged from six upwards. Anyone interested should contact Diana Golding on 07790 222312.
