THE Bolton and Bury girls’ Football League in association with Ladybridge FC in Bolton is to host a high-profile pre-season friendly for Women’s Premier League clubs Blackburn Rovers and Manchester City on Saturday.

The match takes place at Ladybride’s ground in Lostock, Bolton, at 2pm with free entry for everyone.

The game is part of a drive by the Bolton and Bury League to increase the number of girls teams that play in its league in time for the 2009-10 season. The league runs with age groups ranging from under-10s to U16s playing various formats of football including seven-a-side, nine-a-side and 11 v 11.

The league are inviting all clubs, coaches and officials interested in being involved in providing girls football within their club to the event at which help, advice and support will be available from Mike Nadal and Pete Wild from Lancashire FA on all issues involved in starting up a new team.

Nadal, Girls and Women’s Football Development Officer, said: “It is great to see Blackburn Rovers assisting with the growth of grassroots girls football in conjunction with a local girls league.

“We are hoping that lots of people will come and enjoy the day and it will inspire them to provide the opportunity for girls to play football in their own club in their local community.”

The Bolton and Bury League and Lancashire FA will then host a meeting of all interested clubs at a later date to provide support for new girls teams. This will include advice on funding and the recruitment of players and volunteers.

The day will start at 11.45am when two coaching sessions will take place using the FA recognised Blackburn Rovers Girls Centre of Excellence, the FA Tesco Skills Coaches Team and local players from clubs involved in the Bolton and Bury Girls League.
