RUGBY LEAGUE: Bury bounced back from a disappointing first half display to produce a stunning fightback to gain their first win in the North West Counties amateur rugby league.

The Broncos had looked dead and buried at half-time, but hit back with five unanswered tries to complete a fantastic victory, though Blackpool missed a chance to get a draw with the last kick of the game. Bury took an early lead when Mark Jones went over. But for the rest of the half it was the seasiders who were in control as poor defending by the Broncos led to the Blackpool side crossing the line four times.

The home side needed a good start at the beginning of the second period – and they got one when Dave Cross scored from the restart.

Blackpool kicked-off again and, once more, Bury drove themselves forward for Chris Sharkey to barge his way over out wide for a second try in four second-half minutes without the Broncos having touched the ball.

Yet at 22-12, there was still much work, and some late drama, to come. Twins Adam and Chris Radford both smashed over to draw Bury level with 15 minutes left.

And Phil Bygrave, in only his second game, crossed to cap a brilliant comeback. Mike Watt added the extras, which proved vital as Blackpool hit back to move within two points, but saw their goal attempt come back of the post to spark wild Bury celebrations.
