SHAKERS defender Ryan Cresswell says he is willing to bide his time for a chance in the first team.
The 20-year-old former Sheffield United ace played well as Bury kept a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory over Stockport in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy on Tuesday night. He is, however, expected to drop back down to bench for this Saturday's visit of Exeter with Efe Sodje returning to the side.
Cresswell, pictured, admits it is hard to complain while unbeaten Bury are flying high at the top of the league, and said: “I am just glad I got the chance to show the gaffer what I can do.
“Hopefully, I am in his mind now and if anything happens I can come in and do a job. I’ve been told that the team is doing so well at the minute and it’s impossible to change things around unless there are injuries and I just have to make sure I am ready when the call comes.
“Alan is a good manager and a good coach “He talks to us and he explains why you are not in the team and I have just got to keep on doing what I’m doing and my chance will come.”
Exeter will pose a stern test for Cresswell and his Bury team-mates having moved into seventh place in League Two following a glorious return to full-time football in May.
Aldershot showed that newly-promoted teams can be dangerous when they clawed there way back from 3-0 down to earn a point against the Shakers last weekend.
That result means Bury will not be taking Exeter lightly, and Cresswell said: “Exeter are a good side. They showed that last season when they came up.
“We have got a good home record, however, and we have got to go for a win. Confidence is booming now.”
