BURY Jaguars under-11s boys won their half of the table at a high-class Greater Manchester and Cheshire tournament at Belle Vue.
The 12 teams were split in two halves and the boys, who merged with Bolton juniors to form a team, shone.
Bury’s girls came mid-table in their seven-team tournament.
Sam Plant scored in a well-deserved 1-0 win in their opening game against Urmston. Freddy Nicholson then scored a hat-trick in a 3-1 victory over Wilmslow.
James Leigh played in goal and improved as the tournament progressed, making some excellent saves in the third game against Tameside, the toughest rivals on the day who beat Bury 2-0.
The final game against Oldham finished goalless.
The under-11s girls lost 1-0 to a quality Macclesfield team in the last few seconds of their first match. Goalkeeper Rachel Bailey performed superbly in a goalless draw with a strong Bowden team.
A goal from Becky Loonan was enough to beat Oldham before Bury lost 1-0 to Alderley Edge and drew 0-0 with Stockport.
In their last match against Wilmslow, the Bury team were dominant, Becky Loonan scoring three goals with Elizabeth Lucas and Sabrina Kaye adding one each.
Rachel Bailey and Kaitlin Cameron were outstanding throughout the tournament in keeping the goals Bury conceded down to just two.
