RADCLIFFE AC’s Donna Cartwright won her club’s Joan Rhodes and Fred Norris memorial 5km trail race.
She crossed the line in 20mins 18secs, a long way ahead of her nearest rival Rachael Ellison, also of Radcliffe, who finished in 21mins 37secs.
Club-mates Sheila Jones (V55 24:13), Rita Kavanagh (V35 25:18), Denise Kay (V40 25:44) and Melanie Ridgewell (26:6) were fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh respectively.
The men’s race attracted top regional runners from Salford, Horwich, Bolton, Stockport and Middleton, with Wilmslow Running Club’s Damian Nicholls the winner.
Radcliffe won the ladies’ team cup, and in the Radcliffe AC Cup competition, Rob Shiels (17:48) was first, ahead of Vet50 Mark Emmett (20:3), Paul Rushton (V45 21:22), George Critchley (V50 21:31), Chris Burrows (V40 22:26), Berrin Jones (V40 22:53), David Barlett 23:4), and Iain Harris (V60 27:1).
The event raised £380 for St Ann’s Hospice.
In the Horwich 5-mile road race, a two-lap, undulating course around the Rivington area of Bolton, Jones was the first vet-55 in 42:16 and Eileen Royle was first vet-60 in 42:25.
The race was part of the Central Lancs Grand Prix League and also a Radcliffe championship race.
Shiels was the first of 11 Radcliffe runners home, finishing 26th in 31:24, followed by Emmett (V50) clocking 35:53, Critchley (V50) 38:18, John Kirkham second vet 60 in 38:51, Mark Murphy 39:47, Burrows (V40) 40:1, Jones (V40) 40:44, Ridgewell 45mins 3, and Kay (V40) 46:31.
In the tough eight-mile Turnslack Fell Race at Littleborough Rachael Ellison was third in 1.36:54, with Kevin McGilvray finishing in 1.34:44.
