Ul-Haq vows to lead Radcliffe out of slump

ANWAR Ul-Haq has promised to blast Radcliffe back to winning ways.

The Racecourse outfit’s woes continued as their winless run was stretched to 14 games following last weekend’s double defeat.

But pro Ul-Haq says one big innings from him will help struggling Radcliffe turn around their ailing fortunes.

The Central Lancashire club face an unenviable trip to top-of-the-table Norden on Saturday.

Ul-Haq, however, is confident he can inspire an upset, and end his side’s dreadful slump.

“I just need one good knock and I know we can win,” said the Pakistani all-rounder.

“I’m due a big innings and, if we can put a total of 200 on the board, then I can bowl us to victory.

“The team look to the professional when they are struggling and it is up to me to deliver. I’m confident I can do it.”

Ul-Haq has every right to back himself as he has been in impressive form despite Radcliffe’s problems.

The 26-year-old leg spinner, who was professional at Daisy Hill in the Bolton Association last season, is the league’s leading wicket-taker with 65 scalps, and has hit 550 runs. But he insists he can still improve a lot with the bat.

“I’ve not been happy with my batting, especially in the last couple of games,” he said.

“I’ve scored 550 runs but I want to double that by the end of the season.

“But my bowling has been perfect. I know if we can score enough runs then we’ll win.”

Ul-Haq went wicketless on Saturday though as Radcliffe lost to Walsden by four wickets.

And Radcliffe’s miserable weekend continued the following day as they lost their derby showdown with Unsworth 56 runs. He added: “We’re a very young side but our luck will change.”

Radcliffe’s junior co-ordinator, Martin Coates, is holding a week-long coaching course at the Racecourse for youngsters aged five to 16 from Monday to Friday next week.

The sessions, which are designed to add a fun element to cricket coaching, will take place from 10am to 3pm daily under the guidance of three Level Two coaches and cost £30 for the week. For more information contact Louise Farley on 07961 765461 or the club on 0161 723 2604.

The club holds its third and final car boot sale of the season on Sunday morning from 7am to 12 noon.
