DAVID Amoo believes he is making massive improvements after arriving on loan at Bury.

The 20-year-old Liverpool winger is starting to light up League One with his electric pace, and showed his quality in Saturday’s 1-0 derby victory over Preston.

After receiving Peter Sweeney’s pass, he carried the ball from his own half and carved through the North End defensive cover before chipping the ball over goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann.

Amoo came to Gigg Lane on a month’s loan at the end of September and settled in quickly before asking manager Richie Barker if he could stay until January 2, voicing his preference for playing first-team football instead of in Liverpool’s academy or reserves.

“It’s 100 per cent better being here playing against men who are experience players,” said Amoo. “Getting kicked, like I was in the Preston game, there’s no substitute for that. In the academy and reserves, there’s not really that much physicality. It is played at a different pace.

“There’s not that hunger for three points like there was in the derby match.

“The difference in reserve team football is that I might get the ball, take a touch, turn and then run with it. But here I’ve got to be sharper, and you don’t get that extra touch or yard.”

He also paid tribute to his captain Steven Shumacher and midfielder Sweeney for advising him in training and during matches.

“Even when Schuey and Sweens are giving me a pat on the back, they’re critical. They’re always telling me when I need to work harder defensively and in different positions, “ he added.

“Playing with experienced players like that is making me a much better player.”
