BURY have sealed a deal to keep midfielder Shane Byrne on loan from Leicester City until the end of January and exciting winger David Amoo looks almost certain to stay until the end of the season – a major bonus ahead of tonight’s trip to Tranmere.

Shakers manager Richie Barker confirmed that the Foxes were allowing 18-yearold Byrne to continue his tenure at Gigg Lane and a similar scenario is unfolding in the case of Liverpool loanee Amoo with only the paperwork to be completed.

While injured Byrne was forced to sit out the impressive 3-1 win at Scunthorpe United on Boxing Day, 20-year-old Amoo once again turned in a virtuoso performance on the right flank to turn the game in favour of Barker’s men in a highly charged atmosphere against former boss Alan Knill’s side.

Amoo has made nine appearance since his arrival on September 23 and has quickly become a hit with the Gigg Lane fans.

Barker revealed that both Liverpool and the player had agreed to the deal, with the formalities delayed only by the break for the Christmas holidays.

“It’s nearly done,” Barker said. “David’s agreed and we’re just waiting for their secretary to get back to us with the paperwork. With a bit of luck, that will be done and we’ll have him until the end of the season.

“He’s an important part of what we’re trying to do. If you’re going to win matches, you need a bit of all sorts and you need someone like David who’s a bit different.”

Barker was full of praise for his Bury side after the Scunthorpe win, but highlighted, once again, the important role Amoo played in the game.

“We keep trying to reiterate to David what he’s got, what he can do and what he brings to us. We worked on getting the ball to him and isolating their left back who is right footed. If he believes in what we’re trying to do, and keeps letting us help him out, he’ll become a real player.”

Meanwhile, Bury have condemned the personal abuse aimed at former boss Knill by the large contingent of travelling fans on Boxing Day.

A statement on the club’s website said: “The chants aimed at Alan’s family were abusive and extremely personal.

The club wishes to disassociate itself from any such chanting.”
