BURY Comets remained on course for first and second team championships with a double victory at the weekend. Sheffield Phantoms arrived for an early start for the Combination League match and, after a shaky start, the home side took control with three successive 7-3 wins in heats seven, eight and nine. A final score of 82-67 retained the Comets’ unbeaten record. Ryan Livesey top scored with 19 points, James Elston 16, Joe Allen 14+2, Steve Mann 12, Will Owens 9+1, Joe Holleren 6+2, Adam Turnbull three and Adam Taylor three.

The first-team match was easier than expected against a depleted Heckmondwike Saints and the Comets breezed to a 97-53 win. Chris Parish and Steve Whittaker were both unbeaten by an opponent for 17+3 each, Neil Howarth 15+4, Joe Allen 15+1, Trever Hulton and Tom Doyle 12+1 each. Ryan Livesey five and Will Owens four. For the Manchester League Individual day at Stockport, the Comets secondary licence rider Adam Watson was the impressive winner of the Under-13s with a maximum 13 points, Kyle Kelley scored 11, Louis Turner 10, Becky Mason 9. Ryan Livesey took third place trophy in the U16s. Laura Watson, Bury’s only contestant in the U19s, scored points.
