BURY’S Scott Quigg blitzed Brazilian opponent William Prado with a third-round knockout on his return to the ring at Bolton Arena on Saturday.

The 25-year-old was making his debut for new promoters Matchroom and made light work of the bout, flooring his opponent twice.

It was a welcome return to action for the super-bantamweight, who trains with Joe Gallagher at Amir Khan’s Gloves Gym in Bolton.

And Quigg is looking to challenge for the WBA belt later this year.

Quigg took his time to assess his opponent in round one, but in the second he stepped it up and sent the Brazilian to the canvas after landing a good right-hand punch.

The bell saved Prado from more punishment but Quigg dominated again from the start of the third and a right hook sent Prado to the floor again and this time it was all over.

The impressive win took Quigg’s record to 26 wins and just one technical draw – his first meeting with Rendall Munroe last year when the fight was stopped because of a clash of heads. And he was happy with the display.

Quigg said: “He’s never been stopped before. He’s tough but I don’t think he’d ever been hit that often and I broke him down in three rounds basically. I think I was punch-perfect – tell a lie I got caught flush by a jab – but pretty much punch-perfect.”

New promoter Eddie Hearn is hoping to squeeze Quigg on to the card for the big show in Hull a week on Saturday. Then it could be a clash with Yoandris Salinas, after the WBA ordered the pair to fight for the vacant title, and negotiations are underway for a possible fight in September.
