BURY boxer Scott Quigg says he is ready to step up into the big time after landing his first world title shot.

The 24-year-old will fight Cuba’s Yoandris Salinas for the vacant WBA super-bantamweight belt in Britian later this year, with the date and venue still to be announced.

Salinas and Quigg have comparable records, with the former Bury ABC fighter unbeaten in 27 professional fights and his 27-year-old Cuban opponent with one draw and no defeats to his name from his 21 bouts.

But Quigg, a former British champion and the current holder of the WBA interim super-bantamweight belt, is confident he will take his chance.

“I’ll be working hard over the summer to get ready for the clash, Salinas is a classy operator but I will be 100 per cent ready to take that title,” said Quigg, who is trained by Joe Gallagher out of Amir Khan’s Gloves gym in Bolton.

“It’s great news that this fight has been made and will be in England,” added Quigg, who stopped William Prado at Bolton Arena last month in his first fight back since November, following a change of promoters from Ricky Hatton to Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom.

“I was thrilled to get back into the ring in Bolton. It had been a frustrating wait but now I’ve got the ring rust off and we’ve this world title shot, it’s all been worth it.”
