PROMOTER Eddie Hearn has already made one of Scott Quigg’s dreams come true – by landing the Bury boxer a shot at the world title.

Now he is looking into granting the Shakers fan another – by putting the fight on at Gigg Lane.

The Matchroom boss has confirmed he would love to stage the WBA super-bantamweight showdown with Cuba’s Yoandris Salinas at the home of Quigg’s favourite team.

“It’d be great to turn the ground into ‘Quigg Lane’ for one night,” said Hearn.

“The club have been in touch and they seem really up for it.

“There’s a fair few obstacles in the way with schedules and so forth, but Scott is a huge talent and he deserves his first world title fight to be on a big stage – and it doesn’t get bigger than an open air show in your home town.

“It won’t be the last world title fight he has though, so if we cannot make it work for the Salinas fight, it’s something we’ll look to in the future.”

Whatever the venue, Quigg says he is ready and able to step into the big time.

The 24-year-old former Bury ABC fighter, who now trains out of Amir Khan’s Gloves gym in Bolton, is unbeaten in 27 professional fights, while his 27-year-old Cuban opponent has drawn one and lost none of his 21 bouts.

But Quigg, a former British champion and the current holder of the WBA interim super-bantamweight belt, is confident he will take his chance.

“I’ll be working hard over the summer to get ready for the clash. Salinas is a classy operator but I will be 100 per cent ready to take that title,” he said.

While Hearn has not yet confirmed the venue, the promoter has promised the big fight will be held in the UK before the end of the year, with the likely date set to be in September or October.
