BURY ABC’s top talent have not been given too long to bask in the glory of their recent success at the Box Cup in Dungannon, Northern Ireland.

The club’s four medal winners at the prestigious international tournament are pictured here with coaches Mick Jelley and Colin Carr.

Two of those – Zahir Iqbal and Muhammad Ali – will this week train with the Great Britain ABA squad in Sheffield ahead of an international match in Ireland later this year.

The young boxers, both aged 17, fight at different weights but have matched each other blow for blow in the title stakes.

Iqbal and Ali have both picked up three national schoolboy titles and a national junior title each so far.

Back on the local scene, two of Bury ABC’s younger fighters won on points at a match last Friday at the Trimpell Club in Morecambe.

Rayman Afzal, aged 12, beat Jennings ABC boxer A Carter in the 34k division, while 14-year-old Hasnin Saijad beat Lancaster Boys fighter Brad Whalley in the 64k weight category.
