SCOTT Quigg says his upcoming world title showdown with Carl Frampton will be “the biggest fight of the year”, writes Will Jackson.

It was confirmed today that the bout, at Manchester Arena on February 27, will be shown pay-per-view on Sky Sports Box Office.

That will be music to the ears of fans who were unable to get their hands on one of the 20,000 tickets for the fight, which sold out in under 10 minutes.

The 27-year-old Bury fighter, who trains with Joe Gallagher at Amir Khan’s Gloves Gym in Bolton, remains confident he has what it takes to add Frampton’s IBF super-bantamweight belt to his WBA title.

“This is going to be the biggest fight of the year,” he said.

“The build-up is going to be huge and will get tenser as we get close to February 27 – but I am totally focused on the job in hand.

“Everything I have done in my career has led to this fight, I know I’m better than Carl in every department. I’ve got the tools to beat him and beat him convincingly.”

Quigg is unbeaten in 33 professional bouts and has successfully defended his world title five times, including the devastating demolition of Kiko Martinez in just two rounds last time out.

Martinez had previously taken Frampton the distance before losing on points.

“This is it now,” added Quigg.

“We are both going to get in the best shape possible but there’s only going to be one winner and it’s me.

“There’s a lot of respect between us, we’re both world champions, it’s a lot of hard work involved in getting here, but there’s only going to be one world champion at the end of it.”

Frampton might be fighting in Quigg’s backyard, but the Belfast-born boxer is expected to have 10,000 fans from Northern Ireland cheering him on in the Arena.

The 28-year-old, who has won all 21 of his fights, will be making the third defence of his IBF belt, which he won against Martinez in September, 2014.

And the Barry McGuigan-managed fighter is similarly confident of maintaining his unbeaten record.

“This fight has been in the making for years,” said Frampton. “It's finally happening and I'm going to deliver the performance of my career and win in style."

The match-up has got the pundits stumped, with neither boxer a clear favourite.

And Adam Smith, executive producer of Sky Sports boxing, believes the fight will live up to the hype.

“This is one of the most eagerly anticipated matches of recent times,” he said.

“Everything is on the line for Carl Frampton and Scott Quigg and the atmosphere in the Manchester Arena will be electric for what should be a truly outstanding duel between two fighters at the top of their game.”
