BURY ABC duo Ibrahim Nadim and Muavia Nasim were crowned Greater Manchester champions after coming through tough fights at the regional ABA youth finals at the Lighthouse Venue in Salford on Saturday.

Nadim was taken all the way by Luke Fay, of Northside ABC, in the 47-49kg division before winning on a split decision.

Both fighters will now go into the next round of the national championships, for boys born in 1998 or 1999, at a venue in the Tyne, Tees and Wear region this weekend.

Boxers from the Bury club were also in action over the weekend at two other meetings.

At the Co-op Club in Nuneaton on Saturday, Brian Rennie kept his recent good run going with a unanimous victory on points over Harry Scarff, of Salisbury ABC, in a senior elite fight.

Abdul Bari also won in his first senior fight, taking a split decision against Carlos Henry, of Lucky Star ABC in the 70-72kg division.

But their were defeats on points for Zain Ahmed – against Huey Malone, of CTK ABC – and Ali Akbar Javid – against George Bance, of Atherston.

Junior fighter Umar Niaz won unanimously on points against B Baxter, of Astley VIP ABC, at Ingol Labour club in Preston on Sunday.

But schoolboy Baber Iqbal lost on a split decision against B Hackett, also of Astley, and John Gaynor was beaten by V Carter, of Jennings ABC, who won by a unanimous decision.
