MUHAMMAD Danish has won through to his second consecutive National Schoolboy Boxing Finals after he stopped semi-final opponent Daniel Stringer in the second round at Gorton on Saturday.
The referee stopped the one-sided contest after giving Stringer, of Rotunda Club, Liverpool, two standing counts.
Danish, aged 13, who boxes out of Bury ABC, will now face southpaw Charlie Disson, of London’s Dale Youth Club, in the 42-44kilo division of the Class Two finals (for boys born in 1998) in Mansfield this weekend.
The Keighley-born fighter, who won his first title in Class One last year, has breezed into the finals this year, stopping all but one of his six opponents and winning his quarter-final bout against former champion Jack Dickinson 18-2.
Bury ABC boxer Awaiz Iqbal, aged 19, was also in action at the weekend, beating Jack Cullen, of Gloves Gym, Bolton, on points at Bolton Wanderers’ Reebok Stadium.
Iqbal won the seniors 69kilo (light middleweight) contest on Friday during an evening organised by Bolton Council to promote amateur boxing in the region.
