STAND lost a second successive home game in the Lancashire County League last weekend when Roe Green won by 32 runs in a game that saw the hosts bowled out for less than 50.

The visitors had inflicted a first league defeat of the season on Prestwich the previous weekend.

And they chose to bat first at the SCG after winning the toss.

But the wicket proved very difficult to bat on, with all the top order failing to come to terms with the conditions.

Fahad Ali, Carl Sutcliffe and Matt Curphey ripped through the Green defences, reducing them to 56-9, with the top score off the bat just nine from Gaz Williams.

The final-wicket partnership between keeper Grant and Vast accumulated 19 runs and was the highest partnership of the innings.

Sutcliffe removed Vast, leaving last man Grant unbeaten on 15 – the only player to reach double figures for Green.

It meant the visitors ended on a lowly 75 all out.

Ali picked up 1-17, Sutcliffe 3-21 and Curphey returned career best figures of 6-28.

Having only conceded 39 off the bat, Stand conceded 36 extras, 27 being wides, which didn’t do anything to help their chances.

During the second innings, the wicket was even more unpredictable as Green professional Andy Hough set about tearing through the home side’s line-up.

Some tricks from the wicket and some indifferent shot selections attributed to Stand’s downfall.

With the exception of Pete Walters (15) and Sean Brookes (14) who played the shots of the day – a number of textbook off-side drives – nobody else was able to reach double figures.

Stand were eventually bowled out for 42, having been 28-3, with the visitors conceding just two extras.

Hough returned season best figures of 8-8 from 11.5 overs.

Stand will be looking to bounce back when they host Woodhouses on Saturday.
