STAND returned to winning ways on Saturday when they beat Woodhouses by 63 runs at the SCG.

The visitors’ decision to field backfired as Stand produced possibly their best batting display of the season.

Rick Rothwell (17) and Sean Brookes (35) set the tone early on as Stand raced to 45-1 from 10 overs.

Brookes continued his impressive form with good support from Alex Bell (11) and Dave Taylor (29) as they reached 89-2 at the midway point of their innings.

Woodhouses captain Nick Doyle turned to his slow bowling options with Nick Hardman and Cassidy in tandem during the second half of the innings.

Pete Walters hit a cameo 32 while Stand were the benefactors of 31 extras in total (22 of which were wides), as they finished on a commanding 180-6.

Stand’s fine display with the bat was backed up by an excellent spell of bowling from Jack Walmsley.

Matt Curphey and Fahad Ali opened up their attack, with Ali featuring in his last game for the club.

But, thanks to Cassidy and Cormie, the visitors made a decent start in reply, until Curphey removed Cormie (17) caught by Walters with the score on 39.

Cassidy (19) was trapped in front shortly after by Walters, before a rebuilding job was started by Hassan and Garner.

The pair moved the score along to 72-2 but Walmsley trapped an unimpressed Hassan in front for 16.

Garner (13) followed soon after, lbw to Walters who sustained an eye injury during the celebration and was forced off the field.

It was left to Doyle and Hardman to try to repeat the heroics from earlier in the season.

This time Walmsley knew too much for the pair of them as he clean bowled both, before hitting Keogh’s poles to reduce the score to 104-7.

The Stand bowler was then instrumental in the run out of Ball (seven), before Sutcliffe bowled Preston to leave the visitors on the brink at 117-9. Bukhari then went out with a bang smashing towards long-off, only to find the waiting Brookes who s took an excellent catch to wrap up proceedings.
