BURY were involved in a feast of record-breaking run scoring at second-placed Bolton Association rivals Flixton on Saturday.

Sadly, for Simon Belston’s men, it was the Manchester hosts who provided the bulk of the entertainment in a game Flixton won by 73 runs.

A total 685 runs were scored by both teams, beating the previous Association highest of 605 set in 2005 in a match between Darcy Lever and Golborne.

Flixton’s 379-2 also broke their own highest innings score record of 374 set last season. That total had broken a near 100-year milestone of 346 set by Westhoughton in a match against Little Hulton in 1917.

Flixton’s sepctacular hitting left Bury captain Simon Belston regretting offering to bowl first without the formality of the toss.

Luke Perry scored 103, blazing his first 50 in 16 balls, and Alton Beckford hit 141. Deputy pro Clinton Perrin also joined the party with an unbeaten 99.

Bury by no means disgraced themselves in their reply finishing on 306-9, 180 of those runs scored by the unbeaten Kobus Scholtz. The next biggest score after his proved to be 35 extras as Beckford took 3-44.

Fourth-placed Walshaw are still in with a shout of a third-placed finish with an eight-wicket success against Astley and Tyldesley at Sycamore Road.

The visitors scored 152-9 batting first with Michael Brooks hitting 53 and David Harrison 30. Back-from-injury Darren Foy got among the wickets on his return for Walshaw, taking 4-41 and Brandon Williams 2-20.

Danny Hornby then scored 45 and Jack McClung 67 as Walshaw rattled off 156-2.

Neighbours Elton enjoyed a 57-run win at Golborne after hitting 228-6 thanks to David Murray (45), Steve Ward (42) and Chris Read (40).

Golborne were dismissed for 171 of which Jake Waterworth scored 46 as Elton captain Steve Filkins took 5-34 and Mark Goddard 3-20.

Back-to-back wins in their double-headed Bolton League weekend kept Greenmount in the running for a Lancashire Knockout slot next season with an 84-run home success against Heaton followed by a seven-wicket win at Eagley the following day.

Ryan Senior was the pick of the home side’s batsmen in the Heaton clash, scoring 33 out of a total of 170-9 and taking 5-56 as the visitors folded to 86 all out.

At Eagley, the home side scored 131 before Greenmount scored 106-3 in a rain-affected clash in which the Bury side’s target was revised. Andy Kerr top scored on 40, closely followed by Phil Ingram (39).
