LANCASHIRE Lions VICC retained the North and East Development League Title for visually impaired cricketers after a resounding victory over rivals Yorkshire. The youngsters were put in to bat first and played a stunning innings, hitting 217 from 23 overs without losing a wicket. Bury’s Usman Afridi, aged 12, showed nerves of steel as he racked up 53 runs. His opening partner Goerge Ferguson scored 50 and both were retired after reaching the milestone.
The onslaught continued as 11-year-old Wasim Afridi followed in his cousin Usman’s footsteps with a solid performance on his debut.
Michael Dickson, also 11, batted alongside the younger of the two Afridis and they put on a 40-run partnership. Yorkshire’s dismal afternoon continued with the bat when they were all out for 64 in 23 overs. The experience of club founder and captain Sheraz Chohan proved too much for the White Rose as he took two wickets from three overs, conceding no runs.
