FLIXTON made sure they got the one point they needed to wrap up the title.

Batting first at Walshaw, they failed in their first goal of securing a point for reaching 175 runs so then decided to shut up shop to get the two points for not being all out.

They posted 138-5 and Walshaw rattled off the winning runs with eight wickets and 18 overs to spare, opener Danny Hornby scoring 75 and Jack McClung 58 not out.

Walshaw finished fourth in Section A, giving them the last of the four Lancashire Knockout places awarded to the Association this season, fewer than usual.

Last year’s champions Atherton finished second after losing at Bury who ended their second Association campaign an impressive third.

The Radcliffe Road men posted 186-9 (Mumtaz Mirza 56, Matt Gallagher 4-40) before Atherton fell 31 runs short. Ian Nuttall hit a late 25 including three consecutive sixes.

Eighteen-year-old Jordan Belston was a key figure as he continued to settle into the side, taking 3-20.

Elton won their last game in the Association in a high-scoring game at Daisy Hill. On a day of runs and centuries, Steven Hodgkinson scored 126, Amjid Khan 57 and James Mann 32 off just 14 balls as Daisy posted 311-7, Chris Read taking 3-18 late on.

Alistair Lowes led the victory charge for Elton, scoring 110, Gary Nicholson hit 55 as Elton won with four wickets and six overs remaining.

Mark Wood marked a day off from keeping wicket by taking 2-31.
