Greenmount under-11s have celebrated winning the Bolton League for the first time in the clubs' history.

The boys went through the 2013/14 league season unbeaten with the only blemish coming in the cup semi-final when they lost to eventual winners, Bradshaw.

There was further success with four members of the squad - Sam Bird, Bailey Dalziel, Mathew Senior and Evan Williams - representing Bury District u11s team, while Senior, Williams, Harry Graham Scott, Joe Hornsby and Ben Holland were selected for Bury District u10s. Williams also played for Lancashire at both u10s and u11s.

Delighted coach Gareth William said: "We are extremely proud of the boys and what they have achieved this year. We have used a squad of 12 players and they have all contributed to the success. It is a real pity that the team was forced to play the semi-final with 11 boys unavailable, otherwise they would undoubtedly had won the cup as well. The good news is that seven of the team are still available next season, so hopefully they will get another chance.

"I think this justifies all the hard work that the club has been doing in relation to our focus on junior cricket. We have a dedicated club coach Nigel Brown who works across all ages and abilities on a Friday night. We have also established our own academy and a number of our junior players are making the break through into the senior teams.

We will hopefully build on this and the signing of Travis Townsend as professional, who has a particular interest in coaching, will help the club go from strength to strength.”

Indoor nets begin in January at Greenmount cricket club, who run several teams at every age group starting at u9s. Anyone who is interested in joining the club should contact Gareth on 07899 954165 or email gareth.williams@ghwsolicitors.co.uk
