BROOKSBOTTOM Cricket Club can look forward to the new season with renewed optimism after completing the signing of overseas amateur Peter Betros.

Betros, who is a middle order batsman, will join from Sydney side Penrith and follows a number of fellow Australian cricketers to play at this level in the past.

A club spokesperson said: “Peter will be a great asset for the coming season. He will be helping out the existing coaches with the junior and adult training sessions as he is keen to get involved in as many ways a possible.

“We were recommended him by our former overseas amateur Chris Joseph and he has told us he is also a useful bowler!”

The local side will be hoping he can bring some better fortune to the club after a disappointing season for the first team last year finishing bottom of the Ribblesdale League.

However, the club feel that the young side they have will learn from past experiences, and with a few new additions it will leave them in good shape for the start of the campaign.

“We are on the lookout for more adult players particularly at first team level to try and help us progress in the league. We have got a group of young lads who we are hoping can develop this year.”

They won’t be adding any more players from abroad though as league rules state only one overseas player is allowed per club.
