FOR the second week in succession, Pakistan professional Raheel Majeed and Anwar Ul-haq impressed as Radcliffe Cricket Club climbed to the top of the Central Lancashire League Championship with a 156-run victory over newly-promoted Heyside at the Racecourse.

The duo, who came in as third and fourth batsman, hit 70 and 40 runs respectively to lead the Hamer Street men to 245 all out.

It means Radcliffe have clinched maximum points from their opening two games and captain Chris Berry was again delighted with their performance.

"Majeed and Ul Haq got off to a flying start," he said.

"Majeed in particular looked good. Heyside had an early chance to bowl him out but they dropped him and he punished them.

"Even when he was dismissed the lower order batsmen came in and put on a decent total."

Former pro and leg spinner Ul-haq, who is back at the club as an amateur this season, was also Radcliffe's best bowler, taking 6-18, including four maidens, as Heyside were skittled for just 89 in reply.

"They didn't lose their first wicket until the 10th over but then Anwar came in and just ripped through them," said Berry.

"Overall it was a good win. Heyside are a new team in the league and they looked a decent side but their ground is very small, so I think they may find it hard trying to defend on it."

Berry is confident he side can keep their winning run going when they travel to Werneth on Saturday, 1.30pm start.

"They've lost quite a few players from last year and I think we will beat them," he said.
