MEG Phillips became the first-ever female to play in the First Division of the North Manchester Cricket League when she lined up for Tottington St John’s in their local derby with East Lancs Paper Mill last week.

The 19-year-old Australian all-rounder, who has played four seasons for Tasmanian Roar, was eighth in the batting order for the Totts and hit five before being bowled as the home side clinched a 116-run victory at Crompton Meadows.

Phillips, who will also link up with Lancashire Women’s Team this summer after becoming the first female recipient of the Adam Gilchrist Cricket Scholarship, also bowled two overs but was unable to take a wicket.

Paul Meeham (98) and Rick Carr (89 not out) led the Totts to 234-4. Russell Brooks was the pick of the Tottington bowlers when he took 5-32 as the East Lancs side were skittled for 118 in reply.
