BURY Allstars Under-14s hopes of winning silverware were ended when they were beaten 6-3 by Adlington Vikings in the final of the Player’s Cup at the Eddie Davies Academy in Lockstock.

In a high-scoring game full of excitement, Adlington built up a three-goal cushion in the first half, giving the Allstars a mountain to climb.

In the second half, Bury battled bravely and scored three goals through a Kameron Hargreaves goal and a brace from Lewis Gibson.

However, they were unable to turn over the deficit as Adlington scored a further three goals to lift the trophy.

After the game, Adlington’s manager Dave McCoyd paid tribute to the Allstars’ battling display.

“Fair play to Bury All-Stars they never know when to give up and they played the second half with a lot of pride to make the end of the game very exciting for the crowd.” he said.

“We have played against Bury three times this season and have never had an easy game. Bury’s players are a credit to their club.”

Allstars’ boss Andy Halsall also praised the character that his team showed during the final.

“The first half was fairly one-sided for Adlington but the second half was end-to-end,” Halsall admitted.

“I am extremely proud of how well the players have performed all season and how well they really pulled together to reach the final.”

Halsall acknowledged the improvement his side have made over the course of the season and is optimistic that the team can go on to win the tournament next time around.

“We have improved no end over the last few seasons, and hopefully we can go one better next season. “
