WALSHAW sit third in the Bolton Association, hot on the trail of league-leaders Edgworth following a routine victory against third-bottom Golborne.

Openers Johann Brohier (35) and Jake Waterworth (25) got the Lowton outfit off to a good start, but the bowling attack of Liam Riley (5-42) and Danny Hornby (4-10) had them dismissed for 127.

Ally Dickinson (55) struck a half-century in reply and Gavin Nichol added 31 as Walshaw reached the target with the loss of just three wickets, moving them to within 24 points of league leaders Edgworth.

Bury are also riding high, just three points behind Walshaw in fourth, following a crushing 83-run defeat of basement club Darcy Lever.

Simon Belston was stumped one run short of a century on his home ground after sharing a 112-run partnership with Mumtaz Mirza (61) for the first wicket and a further 99 with Ashen Silza (39) for the second wicket.

The Radcliffe Road side went on to make 235-4, with Darcy's Alex Lee (3-71) helping to stop further embarrassment.

Michael Norris struck 42 in reply for Darcy, but when Silva turned his hand to the ball he tore through the visiting batting line up, taking 5-39 to remove Darcy for 152.

Edgworth remain at the summit of the Bolton Associaton after breezing past Winton.

Skipper Sam Heeley continued his recent impressive form hitting 98no and Luke Kennedy added 23 but it wasn’t enough to reach the target as deputy professional Imranullah Aslam (4-64) and Connor De’Ath (3-42) dismissed them for 210.

Astley and Tyldesley captain Jimmy Cutt led his side to victory with bat and ball as they recorded a comfortable victory away to Westleigh.

The new-boys of the Bolton League have struggled since joining and currently sit second-bottom with only one victory to their name.

And their bad start to the season showed no sign on ending on Saturday, especially when Cutt picked up the ball and bowled 6-30, which along with Nathan Johnson (3-29) had them dismissed for 101.

Skipper Cutt then scored an unbeaten 30, whileAustralian Travis Wordsworth hit 37 as A&T cruised to an eight-wicket victory, a result that lifted them up to sixth in the table.

Captain Chris Sanderson scored 48 and Thusendra de Zoysa – the league’s fifth highest run scorer with 453 runs - added 37 as Blackrod racked up a total of 147-9 at the end of their innings.

Schaughn Van Greunen (3-39) and David Purcell (3-50) were the pick of the bowlers taking three wickets apiece.

In reply Nick Irwin hit 31 and Michael Old chipped in with 29, but the bowling attack of Joe Speak (4-13) and de Zoysa (3-37) proved too much and they fell 19 runs short of the target.

BROTHERS Chris and Matt Norvall starred for Swinton Moorside as they stormed to victory against Little Hulton.

Chris Norvall (98) fell two runs short of his first-ever career century and Jamie McDougall (68) and Tom Hughes (30 not out) also scored high as Swinton posted the highest score of the day with 293-7.

Matthew Leach (41) and Simon Hanson (24) put on a 65-run partnership, but that was the best that Lostock could muster as the bowling attack of Critchley (4-31), Majeed (3-43) and Jon Howells (3-37) – aided by wicketkeeper Zak Millington who took four catches – dismissed Lostock for 132.

Daisy Hill picked up their third win of the season away to Atherton.
