THERE was disappointment for both local clubs in the Bolton Association at the weekend with fourth-placed Walshaw losing to Blackrod and fifth-placed Bury's match at Edgworth abandoned due to rain with the Radcliffe Road men on course for victory.

David Flanagan starred with the ball for Lostock as they shocked title-contenders Walshaw.

Paul Busby and Conner Hicklin both scored 40 as Lostock were bowled out for a respectable 144. Liam Riley caused the most damage with the ball bowling 3-45.

But as Walshaw attempted to reply they could not find a way to deal with the immense bowling attack of Flanagan who took eight wickets for 25 runs inside 10 overs to bowl the hosts out for 55.

However, Walshaw were almost spared the defeat as the rain fell late on but just as the covers were being prepared Flanagan bowled the final wicket to seal the win.

League-leaders Edgworth missed out on a chance to increase the gap at the top of the table when their game with Bury was abandoned in the second innings.

Chris Read (44), Ashley Eastwood (32) and Simon Lord (31) all scored high as the table-toppers ran up a total of 190 – despite Neil Tong's five-wicket haul for 43 runs.

Mumtaz Mirza led the reply with the bat hitting 34 but the game was halted when Read went down with an injury during a bowling delivery.

The Edgworth professional could not be moved from the pitch and when an ambulance arrived he was taken to hospital but he will have to wait until tomorrow when the swelling on his knee reduces for further analysis.

To make matters worse rain began to fall and the game was abandoned with Bury posting a healthy total of 110-3.
