CAPTAIN Chris Berry will be looking for revenge when his Radcliffe side travel to Werneth on Saturday.

The Homer Street men were beaten at home by the Central Lancashire League strugglers earlier in the season and the skipper wants his side to put that right at The Coppice.

“They are one of our bogey sides so we need to put in a good performance, beat them and keep our league ambitions on track,” he said.

Radcliffe, who are aiming for a top-two finish in the Championship behind runaway leaders Crompton, climbed to third place with a two-wicket success over Heyside at The Racecourse last weekend. And coupled with second-placed Middleton’s defeat to Ashton, Berry’s men are now just six points behind them in the chase for the runners-up spot.

Batting first the visitors were all out for 167, with Ryan Barnes top scoring with 36.

Saif Ur-Rehman was the pick of the Radcliffe bowlers taking 4-47 off his 10.5 overs.

In reply, Martyn Coates smashed his way to 61 and professional Raheel Majeed also hit 37 as Radcliffe began their innings well. And despite a middle order collapse, Jack Wilde (18 not out) and Jimmy Dixon (11no) got the hosts over the line.

Danny Cashin and Carl Newton were the pick of the Heyside bowlers taking 4-32 and 4-66 respectively.

“We made hard work of it really,” said Berry. “Luckily Coates batted well and we can bat down the order. But they had us worried for a bit.”
