RAMSBOTTOM bowler Michael Haslam and professional Daryn Smit both landed milestones in what was an otherwise disappointing weekend for the Lancashire League side.

Despite defeat at East Lancs on Saturday, Haslam reached the milestone of 600 wickets in Lancashire League cricket and was again Rammy's best bowler taking 2-23.

The home team were reduced to 70-7 with just three overs of the innings left but Sharukh Khan and Chester plundered 40 runs off the last three overs for East Lancs to set a total of 123.

Khan then turned on the style with the bat taking 7-27 in nine compelling overs as Rammy could only manage 62 in reply with the innings completed in just 18 overs. Dale Gabriel was the only batsman to get into double figures.

Having been washed away the previous day, Ramsbottom were washed out on Sunday but not before professional Smit reached a landmark 1,248 runs for Ramsbottom in Lancashire League Cricket beating Brad Hodge's record by two.

In his last match before a premature departure he needed 52 for the record.

With the toss won the first wicket did not fall for 22 overs with Martin Cropper (34) and young Will Turner (29) going along in comfortable fashion.

When Cropper was dismissed, the pro came in knowing he had little time to spare.

Batting with freedom and expansiveness from the outset he progressed to 53 off 87 balls, with most of his runs coming from trademark drives to wide mid on and forceful sweeps. He reached the record just as the rain started to fall and no more play was possible.
