CHRIS Berry wants his Radcliffe side to end the season on a high and claim second place in the Central Lancashire League Championship.

The Homer Street men suffered mixed fortunes last weekend, crashing to an eight-wicket defeat at third-placed Milnrow on Saturday before bouncing back to claim an 88-run win at home to league champions Crompton on Sunday.

But with second-placed Middleton losing both of their games, fourth-placed Radcliffe are now just two points behind with a game in hand.

The skipper is now hoping Radcliffe can take their chance and win their final two games – at home to local rivals Elton and away at Ashton – to claim a top two berth.

"The ball is in our court going into the last two games," he said.

"If we win them both and get all five points we will almost certainly guarantee ourselves second place."

Missing several players due to the bank holiday weekend, only professional Raheel Majeed and Rana Adeel Ahmad hit double figures, scoring 24 and 16 respectively, as the Homer Street men were skittled for 100 at Milnrow on Saturday.

Aaron Brown was the pick of the home side's bowlers taking 4-38.

The hosts knocked off the target with ease at Ladyhouse with top scorer Steve Dryden hitting 44 not out.

Berry fell four runs short of a half century as he led the Radcliffe to victory against champions Crompton at the Racecourse ground on Sunday.

The skipper steadied the home side's innings, which had struggled to reach 29-3, to top score with 46. Saif Ur-Rehman also hit 44 as the hosts totalled 175.

Melvyn Whittle was the pick of the Crompton bowlers taking 3-55.

A six-wicket haul by Ur-Rehman and four from Majeed saw the leaders limited to just 87 in reply.

Ur-Rehman took 6-31 including five maidens from his 15 overs. Majeed also took 4-27.

Denis Louis (24) and Sam Rigby (23) were the only notable scorers for the visitors.

"Saif bowled absolutely out of this world against Crompton to take his six wickets and we also put on an 87-run partnership which got us back into the game.

"To get them out for 87 was the icing on the cake and sweet revenge for them getting us all out for 85 earlier in the season."
