SWINTON Moorside may be on the brink of winning the last-ever Bolton Association title after capitalising on Edgworth’s defeat on the penultimate day of the season, but looking to spoil the party is Bury captain Sean Gibson.

The Radcliffe Road men travel to the title favourites on Saturday and while the skipper is looking forward to being involved in where the trophy ends up, he is naturally disappointed that Bury are not in the title race themselves.

"We thought we were going to be up there challenging for the title ourselves," said Gibson.

"So to be going into the last game of the season without that chance is disappointing.

"But we want to finish the season in a positive way and to win the game and finish second would be brilliant for us.

"We won't be taking them lightly. We've just got to go out there and do our best.

"Swinton have done well to get themselves in a title-winning position, especially after losing their overseas (Jake Brown)earlier in the season, but we've already beaten them this year so, although we are expecting a high-scoring game, we know we can win.

"Whatever happens it's going to be a really good final day and that's what the league deserves."

Edgworth, who have led the way all season, went down to a crushing defeat at Flixton last weekend where they failed to pick up a single bonus point.

Swinton Moorside’s 13 points for their home win against Lostock saw them go four points clear at the top and needing to beat Bury at home to clinch the title.

Third-placed Bury comfortably saw off Atherton with an eight-wicket victory on Saturday.

And it was another product from the Belston family production line who did most of the damage with the ball.

Jordan Belston, a 19-year-old off spinner who is tipped for big things at the club, took 5-38 including the prized wicket of Jamar Griffith as Atherton posted 137-7 (Callum Barlow 62).

Jordan’s cousin Simon Belston – they could virtually field a team of Belstons at Bury – scored 42no and captain Sean Gibson added 33.

Adlington cannot be overtaken at the top of Section B after beating Walshaw by 47 runs.

Pro Majid Majeed, who has signed on for another year at the club he has served for seven consecutive seasons, scored 48, Iain Critchley 36 and Stewart Plowes 25 as Adlington – who were in Section C last season – slumped from 107-3 to 110-7 before rallying.

Liam Riley took 4-42 for Walshaw but it was a rare good performance by the Bury side who only had captain Mikey Watt at number seven showing any kind of form with the bat with 31 not out. Jack Shovelton took 4-48 for Adlington.
