THE less said about Greenmount’s two defeats last weekend the better.

Collapsing from 72-0 to 90-8 at home to Denton West in the Premier Division on Saturday was gutting.

And our loss to Egerton in the Derek Kay First XI Cup was also tough to take.

I want to win every game, so every defeat hurts just the same, but with the cup being in honour of Derek Kay, who had a lot to do with Greenmount, we wanted to do well for him.

We were gutted to be knocked out of it, but that’s the way it goes sometimes in cup competitions.

It’s all about the luck of the draw. We had a tough fixture at Egerton while some sides from lower down the leagues have made it through to the next round.

I have no problem with that. It’s like the FA Cup of the GMCL.

You can pit the biggest sides against the smallest and anything can happen on the day. That’s the beauty of it.

It was great to see local sides Walshaw and Edenfield make it through and Woodbank came close to knocking out Premier Division high-flyers Clifton.

I hope to see the cricket community get behind Walshaw and Edenfield in the next round.

I also understand Prestwich waltzed through to the next round unopposed because their opponents Irlam, of Division Three, forfeited the tie.

I don’t know the reason behind that, but it’s a shame Irlam were not able to put up some kind of a team or the tie could not be moved to a different day.

Every club should honour every fixture. If they don’t then that de-values the competition, and I hope the league makes sure this was just a one-off.
