LANCASHIRE League leaders Ramsbottom are to hold a members' and players' vote to determine whether to join the Greater Manchester Cricket League.

The vote will be held at a specially convened meeting next Thursday, which is the last day clubs can submit a request to withdraw from next season's competition.

Members and players met last Thursday to discuss the club's future, and Andy Dalby, Ramsbottom's cricket chairman, said questions arising from that meeting would be answered in full before a vote is cast.

"In the last meeting we discussed issues with regards to moving leagues,” he said.

“Both sides of the argument were considered in terms of staying in the Lancashire League or moving to the GMCL.

“Following on from that there were some unanswered questions that need to be answered before progressing.

“All those questions will be answered by the Lancashire League and the Lancashire Cricket Board, which will give us all of the facts needed to make the right decision for Ramsbottom Cricket Club.”

Next Thursday’s meeting will be held at the club at 7.45pm.

On the pitch, Ramsbottom remain at the top of the Lancashire League after Sunday’s match at home to Accrington was abandoned due to rain.

The visitors were bowled out for 139, which included 48 from opener Graeme Sneddon.

Pro Daryn Smit took 4-47, while Simon Read (3-50) and Jon Fielding (3-38) shared the remaining wickets, but the heavens opened at the end of the innings and no further play was possible.

Ramsbottom host fifth-placed Nelson on Sunday.
