WOODBANK captain Anthony Harris is relishing the chance to take another Premier Division scalp after beating local rivals Greenmount to make the finals day of the Archway GMCL20.

The skipper said the Division One side's position as the lowest ranked team left in the competition provided extra motivation to see off their top-tier hosts by 34 runs in last Friday's quarter-final at Brandlesholme Road.

Their reward is a meeting against one of three Premier Division sides – Clifton, Flixton or Heywood – in the semi-finals.

"We were talked about as the underdogs before the game and that got us up for it even more," said Harris, whose side struggled to 117-9 from their 20 overs before bowling Greenmount out for 83.

"We felt that we were on a level with Greenmount and could match them, which we proved on the day.

"Our bowling attack is up there with any team in the Greater Manchester League.

"We were disappointed with our batting performance, so the fact we ended up winning at a canter was all down to our bowling, as well as some spectacular fielding."

Opener Steve Dearden got Woodbank off to a decent start with 25 from 26 balls, while Gavin Nichol top scored with an unbeaten 36, which included one of three sixes in the visitors' innings.

Two wickets apiece from Greenmount pro Travis Townsend (2-15) and teenager Tom Heaton (2-34), who also ran out in-form pro John Whitehead, restricted Woodbank to under six an over.

But the home side's bid to keep up with the run-rate was undermined by the regular fall of wickets, and they were eventually bowled out with 22 balls remaining.

Woodbank's opening bowler Kieran Grundy was virtually unplayable, taking 4-1 from 3.2 overs, while Ryan Wilkes took 2-15 and Nichol 2-21.

Heaton threatened a revival, hitting two sixes in his 20 from 10 balls after coming in at number six, but too many of Greenmount's senior batting line-up, which included Australian Jonathan Sammut, captain Andy Kerr and first-team regulars Ryan Senior and Danny Hornby, failed to shine.

Unsworth, the only other Bury side remaining in the competition, were knocked out by a powerful batting performance from Flixton Fire, who took less than 15 overs to breeze past their total of 121-6 with eight wickets in hand.
