WALSHAW and Woodbank have proved in the past couple of weeks they are good enough to play in the Premier Division - at least in a one-off game.

I would like to congratulate them both for making the semi-finals of the First XI Cup and T20, respectively.

If they can continue to replicate the form they have shown after beating Premier sides to progress in the competitions, then they have every chance of picking up some silverware.

They are also well-placed in Division One, so both could conceivably be in the top tier next season.

Whether they stay there will depend on if they can reach that level week in, week out.

Being consistently good against top-quality opposition is not easy, as Greenmount have shown this season.

We feel as if we have the players to compete, but you have to win games if you want to get on.

It is great to see the level of competition in both the Premier and Division One is so high and that's what the Greater Manchester League is all about.

I have enjoyed the test on a personal level, but was not happy with my own performance at the weekend, even though I got a fifer.

In my mind there are good fifers - when you get the top three or four out and help your side win the game - and bad fifers - like the one I got in our defeat against Edgworth.

Anyone can pick up wickets at the end of an innings when the opposition is slogging out. I conceded 70-plus runs and my team lost, so there is little for me to celebrate.

Sticking on that grumpy note, I'm afraid I won't be cheering on Woodbank in the T20 on Sunday.

I might go down there for the craic and have a couple of beers, which I expect many Bury-based players to do, but I am a terrible watcher of games.

I'm not about to get excited about an opposing team, so while I wish them well and hope the club has a great day and makes a lot of money, I'd rather walk around with a nail in my shoe than lead the cheering squad.
