IT looks like Division Two basement club Radcliffe will not be going down without a fight after claiming their first win of the Greater Manchester Cricket League season at the 18th attempt.

A clinical spell of bowling from Mark Patten, who took 5-33, and Jimmy Dixon (4-35) set up the welcome victory as Radcliffe bowled out mid-table Westleigh for 75.

Sean Makinson's 3-11 for Westleigh made life a little uncomfortable for the home side, but Radcliffe eventually made it past their target with five wickets remaining.

It is not yet clear how many teams will be relegated from Division Two this season.

The majority of the front-runners in Division Three are second teams and are unable to be promoted above that level, but current leaders Deane and Derby would be clear to take Radcliffe's place in Division Two.

That means the Racecourse men have four matches remaining to make up the 10-point gap to second-bottom South West Manchester to preserve their Division Two status.

Third-bottom Brooksbottom may still yet come into that equation after falling to their ninth defeat of the season by 89 runs at Wythenshawe.

Meanwhile, Edenfield's hopes of promotion took a knock after they lost by eight wickets at Thornham, a result that left them four points outside the promotion places in fifth.

In Division Four West, Elton Vale's title hopes look to be disappearing after they lost by six wickets against Roe Green's second XI. The result left them 12 points behind leaders Whalley Range second XI with six matches remaining.

ELPM earned the bragging rights in their match at Tottington St Johns, winning by four wickets after successfully chasing down their target of 100.
