BELIEVE it or not, Saturday’s match against Heywood will be our last at Brandlesholme Road this season.

I have been running up a hill to bowl at Greenmount for something like 20 years now and wouldn’t you know it, they have finally got round to levelling the pitch out.

Work has to begin before the end of the summer to give it enough time to bed in, so we are hitting the road.

It is not ideal, considering we are in a relegation battle, but after this weekend’s game our last four matches will all be away from home.

One of those fixtures, against Bury, was supposed to be a home match, but I understand we are playing that at Radcliffe.

I don’t care where I play.

There might be an advantage in playing on a pitch you have prepared, but the aim at Greenmount was always to prepare a good batting wicket.

We believe our bowlers are good enough to get wickets on any surface.

It’s good to make the opposition bowlers work a little harder for theirs, and our team has always been built around a strong batting line-up, so the aim at home was always to bat the visitors out of the game.

We will lose that control, if you can call it that, by playing our last four away from home, but I don’t think it makes a big difference really.

What is for sure is that our run-in is going to be pretty tasty.

Heywood and Bury are both in the bottom four, while we also face trips to Prestwich and Clifton, who are both vying for the title.

There will be something riding on every game, and I think it’s great.

It’s time for us to beef up and get on with it, but I doubt any other team will relish the prospect of playing us.
