THERE is nowhere to hide now in local cricket following the advent of live streaming.

No longer will batsmen be able to walk into the clubhouse and claim they were done by an unplayable delivery.

The evidence will be there on a big screen for everyone to see.

It is a great innovation and something I would have loved in my prime.

All the youngsters just starting up now will be able to get edited DVDs of their greatest moments to look back on in their dotage.

I won’t have that, but the introduction of cameras in grounds has given me an idea of how to spend my retirement – video umpiring from the bar.

Think about it. It won’t be long before we have a third umpire sat in the bar, scouring the live stream.

To be honest, I think having cameras in grounds will turn umpiring into a nightmare.

Any mistakes will be shown up live on HD.

It won’t be long before they scrap umpires all together in favour of video referees.

That sounds like my kind of job.

I can imagine myself sitting at the bar all afternoon, nursing a pint.

Every time an appeal goes up all you would have to do is look up, say not out, and carry on with your pint.

That could certainly be a novel way of boosting the number of umpires, and you can count me in.
