RADCLIFFE Cricket Club will host a charity Twenty20 cricket tournament on Sunday, June 4 to raise money for those affected by the Manchester Arena bombing.

Woodbank, East Lancs Paper Mill and Tottington St Johns will take part in the event, with the first match starting at 1pm.

Radcliffe resident John Atkinson, aged 28, and 15-year-old Tottington High School pupil Olivia Campbell, of Redvales, have been confirmed among the 22 people killed in Monday’s attack.

It is feared many more people and families from the Radcliffe and Bury area could have been affected and Pete Taylor, Radcliffe CC’s cricket manager, said the club wanted to do something to show their support.

“We know that the local community has tragically lost two of its members and who knows how many more people in the area have been affected?” he said.

“It is an event that has touched all of us in some way ¬- it seems even more keenly felt because we have lost some of our own.

“At a time like this we need to stand together, and as a club we felt it was important that we did something to help in whatever way we could.”

Radcliffe will take on ELPM in the first match, with Woodbank v Tottington St Johns due to start around 3.30pm. The two winners will then go head to head in the final from 6pm.

The bar will be open all day and the club will be putting on a barbecue and charity raffle.

Radcliffe have also appealed for volunteers to help. If you can lend your support, contact the club, in Homer Street, Radcliffe, on 0161 723 2604 or visit their Facebook page.
