EAST Lancs Paper Mill can cap a fantastic season by securing the Greater Manchester Cricket League Division Four West title this weekend with a win at Walshaw seconds.

Paul Hewart’s men have already sealed promotion and passed 100 points for the campaign last weekend with a 121-run victory at home to Bury seconds.

Louis Birmingham was the star this week, hitting 72 not out and taking four wickets. ELPM were 95-5 when Birmingham came to the wicket but he steadied the ship before crashing eight boundaries before the home side were bowled out for 198.

Only Bury opener James Stone and Ali Hassan made it into double figures as Hewart (4-13) and Birmingham (4-37) shared eight wickets to secure a 17th victory of the campaign.

“It was another great weekend again for the Millers, capped by a fantastic all-round performance from Birm,” Hewart said. “It’s obviously a fantastic feeling to have already won promotion, now let’s concentrate on winning the league.”

ELPM are three points ahead of second-placed Roe Green seconds so need to match or better their result to win the title.

Meanwhile, Radcliffe also need to win to be sure of promotion. They bounced back from the previous weekend’s defeat in a title showdown with Elton Vale, easing past Swinton Moorside seconds by nine wickets. Victory at Edgworth seconds on Saturday will book their place in Division Two next season.
