BURY’s cricketers and clubs featured heavily in the annual Greater Manchester Cricket League awards ceremony, which was held at Emirates Old Trafford last Friday night.

Three of the top five divisions were won by clubs from the Bury area, with Greenmount claiming the title in Division One, Elton Vale in Division Three and East Lancs Paper Mill in Division Four West.

All three title winners also won special awards on the night as the highest-placed clubs in their division with the best disciplinary record.

There were no individual awards for the best local amateur players in the top two divisions, but they dominated from Division Two downwards.

Brooksbottom’s Moshin Iqbal was named Most Valuable Player – given to the player who made the best all-round contribution – in Division Two after playing his part in the Summerseat club’s promotion.

Radcliffe’s prolific bowler Jimmy Dixon won the prize in Division Three, while Matthew Smalley, of ELPM, was MVP in Division Four West.

There were also divisional batting prizes for Paul Gallagher, of Edenfield, and Louis Birmingham, of ELPM, and bowling prizes for Elton Vale’s Ali Shah and Simon Marsh, of Tottington St Johns.

And fielding awards were handed out to Mohammed Ashraf, of Elton Vale, Michael Farley, of Radcliffe, and Callum Davis, of Walshaw seconds.
