BURY Cricket Club are hoping to land their first piece of silverware of the summer when they entertain Hindley St Peters in the final of the Surridge Trophy on Sunday.

By a quirk of the fixture planner, the final was already scheduled to be played at Radcliffe Road this year and Bury captain Simon Belston is looking forward to the final.

“It’s a big occasion for everyone at the club,” said Belston, who this week led the squad on a team-building tour of Wales.

“It’s the first final many of us have played in and we want to produce the goods.

“They have beaten us at Radcliffe Road already this year, but we went up to their place and won so it’s all to play for.

“We expect big things from our pro, Asif Iqbal, and Ammar (Baig) is on fire at the moment. If we all chip in we’ll do well.”

The game starts at 1.30pm and everyone is welcome to cheer the team on.
