CRICKET: Lancashire all-rounder Steven Croft says the Lightning’s first Pro40 League Division One win of the season will do wonders for confidence in the camp.
Without a win in any competition since July, 14, the Red Rose county stunned title chasing Nottinghamshire under lights at Trent Bridge on Wednesday to win a thrilling game by just one run.
Lancashire now face fellow strugglers Somerset at Liverpool on Sunday when they will be relegated if they lose, while a victory would either see them clinch survival or be forced into a nail-biting play-off against the team finishing third top in Division Two.
They are on the verge of relegation in both four-day cricket and the Pro40, but at least Croft has helped to ignite a feelgood factor in the camp again.
The 23-year-old hit 68 and claimed 3-33, took a catch and affected a run out.
He said: “It will be a massive boost for us. To get a good victory will give us a lot of confidence. Hopefully we can take that into the rest of the season.
“It had been two months since we won, but we haven’t been playing that badly.”
