Egerton look to have blown their chances of lifting the title following Saturday’s crushing 54-run home defeat at the hands of rivals Walkden, who now look odds on to be champions.

Walkden’s victory was by no means a foregone conclusion as they slumped to 40-6 batting first.

But the visitors, who bat all the way down the order, were rescued by their number nine and 10 hitters, Sam Reidy and Dale Jones.

Reidy whacked 46 with Jones not far behind on 42 as Walkden reached 146 all out.

Egerton’s Matthew Cuss took 5-59 and Stuart Hornby 4-55 and the hosts must have fancied their chances of reaching their target.

They buckled, however, and only Sanjith Fernando’s 35 troubled the scorers, before they were dismissed for 92.

Elsewhere, Greenmount did their chances of a third-place finish no harm with a slender win over visitors Eagley.

Eagley reached 172 all out with Phil Ingham scoring an imperious 74 as the Greenmount attack shared the wickets.

In reply, Greenmount got the required runs with only a wicket to spare, John Ashworth top scoring on 75.

Bottom-of-the-heap Heaton, meanwhile, continued their winless streak with a 19-run defeat at home to Bradshaw.

The visitors scored 154 with Nick Kennedy hitting an impressive 39, but the star of the innings was Heaton’s 16-year-old fast bowler Danny Reeve, who took 6-22 off 12 overs.

Heaton should have won, but they self-destructed with three poor run-outs before they were dismissed for 136. Michael Hobbis was the only batsman to shine with 53.

Farnworth SC were one of only two teams to score above 200 when they hosted Little Lever.

They notched 219-5 as Tim Barrow scored 67 not out, Shantha Kalavitgoda hit 60, and Luke Perry chipped in with 33.

Little Lever were dismissed for 133, falling 79 runs short, with SC’s bowlers Adnan Ghaus (3-14) and Anthony Bradley (4-41) getting among the wickets.

Kearlsey were the second team to get above the double-hundred, hitting 204 all out thanks largely to Steve Dublin’s 73 and Ryan Hinds’ 55. Farnworth never got near to the total, collapsing to 72 all out.

Professional Hinds crowned a fine all-round performance taking 4-34 and Chris Sainsbury also filled his boots (6-30).

It was a good day for Tonge’s brothers, Alex and Adam Rodzoch, as they beat visitors Horwich by 35 runs.

First, Alex whacked 36 runs in the hosts’ total of 146 all out, then, as Horwich were dismissed for 111, Adam took 5-34. Adam Street also got in on the act with 4-36 in the Horwich innings.

Horwich’s deputy pro Sunhil Joshi shone with 4-36 in the Tonge innings.

Visitors Astley Bridge completed a fine seven-wicket win over Westhoughton.

They bowled them out for 119 with only Mark Atherton showing any resistance on 30.

Bill Halton, with 5-24, did most of the damage before the Bridge knocked off 121 for the loss of only three wickets. Top scorer was Amal Dalugoda with 39.
