Farnworth seal Lancs KO spot

11:20pm Sunday 14th September 2008

FARNWORTH grabbed the final place in the Lancashire Knockout Trophy for next season when they beat rivals Tonge by 40 runs.

Farnworth reached 107-6 in a game restricted to 35 overs, and in reply, Tonge were bowled out for 67, as deputy pro Saeed Anwar Junior, who has signed a deal to move to Bridgeman Park next season, took 5-36 and Lee Sutton 4-13.

The game ‘nobody wanted’ saw Farnworth Social Circle inflict only the third league defeat of the season on Walkden, a day before the two teams clashed in the Lancashire KO final.

Horwich crushed Heaton, who were bowled out for just 35 as they chased the home side’s 234-7.

Greenmount also inflicted a heavy win at Bradshaw, who they dismissed for 73 after they had posted an impressive 249-8. Astley Bridge ensured Egerton’s miserable end to the season was completed with a 53-run triumph.
