MAY Barlow has been invited to Lord’s in recognition of her outstanding services to cricket.
The Little Lever stalwart will travel to London next month as guest of the English Cricket Board where she will be a guest at the NatWest Outstanding Service to Cricket Award luncheon after being nominated by Lancashire in the category of Lifetime Achiever.
Unfortunately May did not make the shortlist but has been invited to the luncheon as a thank you for her hard work and commitment to the game.
May has been secretary at the Bolton League club for nearly 50 years, taking over the role in 1959.
The 76-year-old still plays an active role down at Victory Road where, apart from the two senior and five junior cricket teams, there are also rounders, table tennis and darts sides.
And the great-grandmother, who was nominated for the award by the Lancashire Cricket Board, cannot wait for her big day out at the home of cricket on October 13.
“I still can’t believe it,” she said. “It’s such an honour and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Walkden bid for a clean sweep of four trophies when they take part in the Lyddon Trophy Twenty20 finals at Little Lever on Sunday.
They take on Tonge in the first game at 10am with Eagley facing Edgworth in the second semi-final at 1pm.
The final starts at 4pm.
